SA Breaking News can reveal suspended Eskom CEO Tshediso Matona has decided to resign from the battling power utility, to start his own solar power company. This, following the news that Matona’s unfair suspension case was struck off the roll in the Labour Court last week.
In a statement to SA Breaking News, Matona reiterated his warning made in December, saying a national blackout was looming.
“They [Eskom] tried to muzzle me when I warned South Africans of the impeding blackout, they tried to say I couldn’t speak clearly, well that’s not true – I can confirm Eskom has been conducting tests to see whether the national grid can cope with a national outage.
“After my case was thrown out and I was accused of inadequate performance I had enough and decided to resign.”
Last week Eskom’s board told the Labour Court Matona failed to come up with concrete plans to deal with the energy crisis in the country, and he was inconsistent about the utility’s financial situation.
But, Matona said he made several suggestions however the board did not approve them.
Now, he said he wants to start a solar power business to help South Africans prepare for the worst case scenario.
