The Photovoltaic System (PV) converts sunlight directly into energy, not through the sun’s heat like solar thermal systems do, but rather by converting energy from the sun into an electric charge. Therefore, power produced by the PV system is directly proportional to the intensity of sunlight striking the solar panel. A grid-tie inverter converts the Direct Current (DC) electricity produced by the system into alternating current (AC) electricity which is the standard unit of electricity used by household appliances.
This PV system consists of 220 solar panels of 230 electrical watts each. The panels are connected in groups of 20 which produce 650 volts at 9 amps, ultimately generating 5 kWh of power per group. The entire system yields 90000kwh of electricity which results in an offset of approximately 92 tonnes of carbon dioxide per year.
Newsclip’s 1 Kilowatt high performance, three blade Wind Turbine delivers up to 1000 kWh of power. A unique grid-tie inverter is used to synchronize the varying voltage to a stable grid supply. The Wind Turbine generates enough energy to power Newsclip’s electric fencing.
