
This majestic 16ha wetland and bird sanctuary is situated at the centre of Century City approximately 7km from Cape Town's CBD, off the N1 highway. Intaka Island is the result of, and represents a unique and successful union of conservation and property development co-existing in harmony and for mutual benefit.
The establishment aims for the conservation of rare and threatened vegetation types and wetland habitat, providing a habitat for birds, especially water birds, water purification and providing the people of Cape Town with a recreational and educational amenity. Through the Intaka Island multi-function environmental education centre, they provide an educational activity hub, covering all aspects of enviro-education as well as showcasing sustainable living best practices which optimise energy and natural resource efficiencies.
Apart from the sprawling wetlands, abundance of rare and more common birds; and exquisite flora, Intaka Island offers a place of solace, to get in touch with nature and get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
