EnviroFuel, a private gas utility, has obtained an Itron smart payment system, as a part of an initiative to provide alternative energy sources to Waterfall Country Estate, in Johannesburg, South Africa. A partnership between EnviroFuel and Sasol Homegas, the initiative allows residents to be energy efficient, while easing the burden on the power grid.
Itron’s solution consists of 2,000 gas meters and a full online prepayment vending and management system that allows consumers to pay for gas online via credit card. This solution gives residents of Waterfall Country Estate convenient access to gas with prepayment meters. With increased availability and simple access, residents are better equipped to effectively manage their gas consumption. As a part of the project, Itron was responsible for solution installation and training and will provide on-going prepaid vending services in its managed services environment.
