The manufacturer is already supplying its inverters to Scatec Solar’s 75MW Kalkbult PV project, a first-round REIPPPP project.
The Linde PV power plant is also employing Hanwha SolarOne modules at the 36.8MWp plant. The 69.6MW Dreunberg project is using modules from JinkoSolar.
Combined, SMA Solar will supply a total of 125 Sunny Central CP XT inverters to the projects, manufactured at its recently established assembly plant in South Africa
The PV inverter manufacturer will also provide 65 Transformer Compact Stations for connection to the medium-voltage grid, 750 Sunny String-Monitors and a Power Plant Controller, said to be specially configured for the grid requirements of ESKOM for park regulation.
Scatec Solar’s 75MW Kalkbult PV project is using 84 SMA Sunny Central inverters. The project developer had previously signed a US$45 million engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract with Kentz in South Africa for the plant, which is expected to be completed in January, 2014.
“The cooperation with Scatec Solar and the excellent suitability of the SMA central inverters for the challenging climate conditions in South Africa have already proven themselves in the Kalkbult PV project," said Jürgen Reinert, SMA executive vice president, technology.
“In addition, there are special functions of the SMA inverters for grid integration. Together with the SMA Power Plant Controller, complex requirements and control functions can be implemented, particularly for multi-megawatt power plants.”
SMA Solar has been selected to supply inverters for at least six REIPPPP projects to date.
