Where are we today in world efforts to prevent global warming?
Director of the Climate Reality Project’s International Program, Ethan Spaner joined Azania Mosaka on her show to answer this and other questions.
Sharing more on the Climate Reality Project, Spaner says the main goal is to contribute to solving climate change by mobilising global activists to build public awareness.
We do that by holding very large three day training all around the world. Al Gore leads them. We have about 15 000 people who have gone through this programme globally, just under 500 of those individuals live in South Africa.

Spaner says there is pressure on governments to take the necessary policy steps and set aside the necessary finances to mitigate and adapt to the effects of climate change.
Speaking on the Paris agreement, Spaner says the document allows each country to implement it in a way that it is protective of its population and allows its economy to thrive. He says renewable energy as one solution has proven to be beneficial.
The good news is that the benefits of transitioning from renewable energy from things like coal, gas, are astounding especially in the African context.

If that renewable energy is distributed - if there are solar panels on rooftops, wind power turbines in rural areas - things that are not necessarily one big solar farm run by a big utility, what you see when you do that is, it gives electricity access to the South Africans who still don't consistently have that access and you can do it for quite cheap.
