Powerway PV SA has entered into JV agreements with key partners JA Solar and Sungrow, leaders in the fabrication of solar modules and inverters. Due to these alliances, Powerway is now able to offer local content exceeding 60% on total EPC cost in South Africa.
There is no doubt that South Africa has already become the home for major worldwide companies characterized by a common long-term view in relation to the solar market in Africa, and surely we will see more participants at the Solar Show 2015.
JA Solar will start the production of both 250W and 300W polycrystalline modules with a high local content this year whilst Sungrow is in the process of setting up a “twin” facility for the production of inverters in Coega IDZ this August, with current figures already showing around 55% local content.
