Each year South Africa's commercial and industrial solar industry doubles in size as companies try to manage the long term risk of rising electricity prices whilst remaining competitive in constrained markets. This presentation looks at whether solar will be a disruptive technology in the South African electricity sector, and how companies should prepare for an era in which they might become their own energy utilities.

Jonathan Skeen, Gauteng GM of SOLA Future Energy, one of the leading solar companies in South Africa, has spent ten years in the solar and mining sectors working on projects including a 100 MW concentrating solar plant, rooftop solar plants for commercial and industrial clients, and large scale heat recovery projects in metal smelters. He is a regular section author for the REN21 Renewables Global Status Report - the world's leading report on global renewable markets, industry and policy. Jonathan has a B.Sc. in Electromechanical Engineering from UCT and a M.Sc. in Technology Policy and Management from the University of Edinburgh.
