
It doesn't matter to him that South Africa was beginning to nurture a new industry and readying itself to become a major player in renewables on the continent. It doesn't matter to him that investors were becoming excited about South Africa's green energy policy. It also doesn't matter to him that climate change is accelerating and that the time has come to quadruple our efforts to move away from burning fossil fuels to create electricity.
If truth be told, this is all about opening up new avenues for the politically connected to make a fast buck. Independent power producers provide no room for tender manipulation. We must also not forget that the Zuma and Gupta families will not make a killing if renewables expand and perform very well and the nuclear agenda therefore loses traction.
