Cronimet has previously deployed SMA solar diesel hybrid technology at the Thabazimbi mine site in South Africa. SMA African independent power producer Cronimet in on track to pick up 15 MW of PV projects to supply mining and industrial operations in South Africa. The projects are being awarded under the South African government's small REIPPP program and are scheduled to be completed in early 2017.
With PV’s falling costs, supplying the mining sector with electricity from solar arrays in remote locations is becoming an increasingly attractive proposition for mine operators. South Africa is moving towards the installation of PV at three mine sites, under the government’s Small Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Program (Small REIPPP).
Cronimet is looking likely to pick up projects under the scheme, announcing yesterday that is has been awarded preferred bidder status for 3 x 5 MW solar plants and solar diesel hybrids for mining and industrial sites in South Africa.
