The network of pipelines and power lines do not reach all the rural areas in Africa currently. Although there are many plans in place to rectify this issue, in many cases it is simply not economical to extend these networks into sparsely populated rural areas with low levels of economic activity. So to meet the objective of all citizens having access to modern energy systems it is necessary to consider options for decentralised or off grid energy supply.
Solutions will require innovative thinking in terms of technology choices, funding and ownership models, and operation, maintenance, commercial and cross-border trading practices.
This is a key area of growth for Alternative Energy Solutions!
Decentralised Energy Supply is of the topics to be discussed at the Africa Energy Indaba 2014. The event has been endorsed by the Southern African Alternative Energy Association Africa amongst others.
