This window received an exceptionally high number of submissions from industry players in the solar, wind, biomass and landfill gas industries vying for the much sought after preferred bidder status.
A total of 93 bids, representing 6032 MW of potential capacity, were received by the August submission date, yet the available megawatts for allocation for the third bid submission round was only 1165 MW.
The Department of Energy (DoE) is therefore considering adding to the third round allocation for all areas of renewable energy in order to make the most of the high number of submissions, and may possibly appoint additional preferred bidders over and above the 17 that have been identified in the third bid window.
