The installation team are busy delivering the remaining 39 Nordex 2.5MW turbines to site and owner’s engineer Wind Prospect should have all machines up by March 2014. Handover of the R2bn project is expected by next July.
Dorper has been developed by Rainmaker with equity partners including Sumitomo Corporation and broad-based black economic empowerment partners, including a community trust.
The scheme is situated in the Eastern Cape, where Rainmaker has environmental approval for more than 500MW of new wind power.
The project is one of eight Wind Energy Independent Power Producer contracts awarded by Energy Minister Dipuo Peters in December 2011.
